The Dutch West India Company was granted a charter to settle in the area known as Bergen in 1660.  Other settlements grew around Bergen and operated as separate towns.  In 1873, all villages consolidated under one Charter and the City of Jersey City and its school system were born!

The Jersey City Public Schools will celebrate its 150th anniversary on Saturday, October 28,
2023 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM at Dickinson High School.
