The grant will allow the District to establish a green infrastructure initiative in partnership with Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources, Sustainable Jersey City, and the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority to develop a plan to retrofit thirty-nine (39) schools with green infrastructure to reduce the stormwater runoff to the combined sewer system as well as provide an educational opportunity for students and their families. Work will include assessment of green infrastructure opportunities, development of a plan to receive public input on the green infrastructure retrofit plans, and community education and outreach.

Liberty High School and Franklin Williams Middle School will have a rain garden installed as part of the project. The total project amount is $220,272 inclusive of the grant award.   On behalf of the 30,000 students and their families, Jersey City Public Schools District is extremely grateful to Governor Murphy, Commissioner LaTourette, and all the partners that made the project possible.
